How do I watch VIWFF 2021 films online?

All of our VIWFF 2021 film programs are on demand on VIFF Connect and can be watched internationally.

The VIFF Connect app is available on:

  • Apple TV (4th Generation or newer)
  • Roku
  • Amazon FireStick
  • Android TV

Additional ways to watch:

  • Your laptop or desktop computer, via your preferred web browser.
  • By connecting your computer to your television via an HDMI cable (note that VIFF Connect is not compatible with Lightning HDMI adapters for Apple devices)
  • You may also be able to share the screen of your computer with your Smart TV using either Apple Airplay or Chromecast, depending on what kind of device you have.
How do VIFF Connect streaming tickets/passes work?

Single-program tickets and festival passes can be purchased from the main VIWFF 2021 web page on the VIFF website, and from each film program web page.

When you buy a ticket/pass, you will immediately be sent an Order Confirmation from VIFF Connect. This will display the titles of the films you have booked, along with a voucher code and a ‘Watch Now’ button for each film.

To view the film, you can click on the “Watch Now” button in your Order Confirmation. Once clicked, you will be taken to the film on your computer (if connected to the television, the film will play in browser and project on your television with the sound coming from your TV speakers).

If you want to watch via Apple TV, Roku, Android TV or Amazon FireStick, you first need to download the VIFF Connect app on whichever device you are using.

To watch films using Chromecast, simply click on the Chromecast icon in the lower right side of the video player. (Not available on Apple devices)

Once downloaded, open the VIFF Connect app and you will have the option to enter your Voucher Code using your remote control. The film will start to play.

Once you’ve clicked the ‘Watch Now’ button or entered your Voucher Code, you will have 48 hours to finish watching the film.

Do you have any livestream events and how do I watch/join those?

VIWFF 2021 includes livestream events, such as panels, workshops, artist talks, table reads, and the Best of the Fest awards announcements, that are hosted on Zoom and livestreamed on YouTube free of charge. To view event information and join the live events, please go to our Events page.

Why can’t I comment/ask a question in Chat for the Q&A part of the livestream event I’m watching?

If you are on a mobile phone or tablet device, the browser version of YouTube allows you to watch the livestream event but may not show/enable Chat.

To enable Chat, use the YouTube app for your device to watch the livestream. When opening the livestream video feed, select the “open with YouTube (app)” option.

If you do not have the YouTube app installed on your mobile device, install it here: Android / iOS

Make YouTube the default for opening video content on your Android mobile device
